In Japan, since ancient times, three types of red dyes have been used: madder, safflower, and suo.


Of these, the one dyed with madder root is called scarlet.


Deep scarlet is a deep scarlet. After dyeing with madder roots, the color is over-dyed with purple roots (purple roots).


Lightly dyed scarlet is called “Asahi”.
